It can be a challenge both locally and nationwide for interested political candidates to find open positions, deadlines, and learn the requirements for elections. That may be why only two percent of Americans run for office, and 40 percent of state legislature races in the U.S. go uncontested. To make the process more accessible, a newly launched online platform called RunForOffice.org is now available to residents of Tacoma and greater Pierce County. Launched locally, RunForOffice.org is a free platform that gives people from all backgrounds the tools they need to become elected officials. The database for this effort was compiled by two University of Washington students.
